Patek Philippe, tradition points to the future

Patek Philippe, tradition points to the future, is a cool title for an article highlighting my great love: namely the synthesis between beauty and function, especially where technology plays a role. Patek Philippe, one of my favourite watchmakers, has come out with a new type series of an older model. the remarkable thing with the puppy is that for the first time, as far as I know, a watchmaker has gone off and not manufactured their gears but has rather had the gears for the watch etched on silicon. This way they can make the components even smaller than before.

Other than the fact that the watch is gorgeous, this way of manufacturing basically means that crafts and industry are starting to rely on manufacturing technologies first developed for computing. Just imagine what might become possible if someone out there starts producing gears on a 9 nm. scale. Sorry... it boggles my mind.
